Freedom & the State

Whether the civil government be Marxist or Democratic, the state today speaks of freedom as an attribute of the state rather than of the people as individuals. The attitude of the courts increasingly is that whatever freedom we have in this country is a matter of federal grant, a federal option, that the courts and Congress can limit that freedom as well as extend it, and of course, what they normally do is to limit it.
